Lucy is truly a one of a kind dog. Not only does she look unique,
with her striking eyes and cute bunny rabbit ears, but she has the
most wonderful personality. Lucy is loyal, fun-loving, and a great
companion. She will open her heart up to you and love you for
life.
Lucy is deaf, but honestly, most people who meet her can’t even
tell. That’s because she is very alert and responsive. Lucy is
house-broken, crate trained, and knows basic commands through hand
signals. She doesn’t chew or have any bad indoor habits. Lucy is
also attending obedience classes, which has helped her tremendously
with learning good manners, building up willpower, and overcoming her
fear and aggression toward other dogs. We hope that whoever adopts
Lucy will continue to take her to obedience classes so she can become
more confident and comfortable in new situations and eventually
become a model canine citizen. Since Lucy is a special needs dog, she
will need extra time and attention so she can achieve this goal, but
it will be completely worth it in the end. Already she has shown
marked improvements in the few months that she has been at her foster
home.
Lucy loves to be with people and she is a professional snuggler. She
is pretty laid back and will be content to cuddle with you on the
couch all day. However, Lucy is a youthful girl and needs to exercise
to maintain her beautiful physique, so it’s important for her to
find a home where someone can take her for long walks or runs every
day. Lucy is great on leash but still needs a little work when she
sees other dogs approaching her head on. This is one thing we have
been working very hard at in obedience class, so hopefully her new
owners will reinforce her good behavior and correct her bad behavior
so Lucy can become more socialized over time.
When Lucy first came to our home, she was very defensive around our
medium-size female dog. They had to be supervised carefully, but over
time Lucy learned that we were all part of the same pack. Now, Lucy
gets along great with our dog! She is kind of a “kid sister” and
will follow our dog around. They do everything together, whether
it’s sniffing a certain spot during a walk, chomping on raw bones,
or even just taking a nap. Since she cannot hear, Lucy often looks to
our dog for cues as to what is going on. For instance, when I ask,
“Do you want to go for a walk?” our dog will get up and dance and
Lucy will excitedly get up and patiently sit by the door for her
leash!
I think Lucy would do best in a home where she is the only dog so she
can get the time and attention she needs. She can definitely get
along with another medium-size or large dog but you must expect an
adjustment period. Lucy will not be fast friends with any dog. She
needs time to learn that she is part of the family, but once she
does, she is the most loving and loyal dog you will ever meet. After
you live with her for a few weeks, you will see that she gives
“hugs” on the couch, wiggles her butt and sings when she’s
happy (seriously, this is the funniest and cutest thing ever), and if
you pet her she will return the favor with a big ol’ smooch.
If you are an experienced dog owner who can give Lucy the care she
needs, you will be rewarded a thousand times over. Please contact
